Gulmarg
Overview
Gulmarg, meaning “Meadow of Flowers,” is one of the most beautiful and popular tourist destinations in Kashmir. Located about 60 kilometers from Srinagar, Gulmarg is surrounded by the breathtaking Himalayan mountains and lush green meadows that attract visitors throughout the year. The destination is especially famous for the world-renowned Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world. The first phase takes visitors to Kongdori Station at an altitude of 8,530 feet, while the second phase reaches nearly 12,293 feet, offering spectacular views of snow-covered peaks and valleys.

Historically, Gulmarg was known as “Gaurimarg,” but Sultan Yusuf Shah Chak later renamed it Gulmarg, making it a favorite retreat for Mughal rulers and British travelers alike.
